Here’s a character I’ve been working on for a while. I can’t explain who she is yet, but hopefully she successfully makes it out into the world soon enough.

I wanted to have some fun with those abstract, dry-brush backgrounds I’ve grown fond of. I like drawing figures so much, but I sometimes feel compelled to then draw a scene around one, when really all I really want to do is focus on the figure itself. The abstract backgrounds let me maintain that focus.

A context-free page from my Canadian romance comic, Sorry, I Love You!. I only use two kinds of tone layers in this series, so I use different brushes and pairings to get what I can from them. If I have too many options, I’ll spend too much time fretting over every single detail.

It’s Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night! This is the second piece in this series, after my Maria Renard illustration. I wanted to convey that classic vampire smouldering loneliness — and those beautiful locks!
