Alucard from Castlevania
It’s Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night! This is the second piece in this series, after my Maria Renard illustration. I wanted to convey that classic vampire smouldering loneliness — and those beautiful locks!

Happy Spooktober! 🦇🌕 It’s my favourite time of the year, so here’s a vampire lady revelling in the moonlight to show how much I love the season. I had a lot of fun applying colour to this and getting the moonlight glow.
Colour illustration of Maria Renard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I wanted a more challenging camera angle, and to include one her animals. I went back and forth on how much detail to put into the castle background; in the end I decide to focus on the character. This was super fun to draw!
You can watch a timelapse of this drawing on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
New inked and toned illustration. All of the screentone is a single pattern, but I wanted to play with its application to see how much lighting I could get out of it. ✨ It’s tempting to add lots of effects or different layers, but how much can I do with just black, white, and one tone pattern?
If you’ve ever played Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest on NES, you’ll recognize this scene. 💎🌪️
I was obsessed with this game from the moment I first rented it as a child; its dark, moody colour palette; its glorious music; the way it made you feel like you were exploring a dangerous countryside.
Simon’s Quest has inspired all of my games in some way — the dark, 2D, pixel-art, side-scrolling horror of Home and Worse Than Death are direct descendants of this. The undulating mountains and far-off vistas of Alone With You are inspired by this game’s pixel art depictions of the Transylvanian wilderness.
I can never get this game out of my head!
